In addition to reading window reviews, checking a company’s Better Business Bureau record is a critical part of the initial vetting process when considering new home windows. Better Business Bureau members have committed to a process whereby consumers can pursue third party mediation, in the event that a company fails to meet their expectations.
Membership itself is great, and an A+ rating is even better, but when looking at company reviews, window reviews, and BBB ratings we would urge you to look deeper to determine whether or not the company deserves your confidence, and ultimately, your business.
Surprisingly, there are Texas window companies with multiple complaints, who nevertheless have an A+ rating from the BBB. In fact, there is one prominent Houston window company with an A+ rating, despite receiving more than thirty 30 complaints over the past 36 months! Does this seem right to you? The fact that most or all of the complaints have been resolved is the official defense, but we urge you to think through the complaint process and decide for yourself.
First of all, as a general rule, homeowners who are disappointed in some aspect of the window purchasing process don’t just automatically pick up the phone and call the BBB. The first thing a consumer does when they are unhappy, is call the company. In fact, most people would call the company at least two or three times, and would most likely even write a letter to the company prior to ever involving the BBB. By the time a consumer files a formal complaint, you can pretty well bet that the company has demonstrated indifference to resolving the issue appropriately, and the consumer has become increasingly frustrated and feels that there is no other option but to contact the Better Business Bureau.
Second, there are a significant number of consumers who don’t ever consider going to the BBB, they just eventually exhaust themselves in trying to obtain satisfaction and give up. A company that has multiple complaints with the BBB most likely has just as many, if not more, customers that fall into this category. Sadly, most of them will never receive satisfaction.
